Okay, so we’re going to test out this camera. We’re in Macau…ahmm….walking around… I’m in Macau now. We’re walking down this little alley.
So, you can see… We’re going to test this out (Camera) and see…so ahm… I’m going to be talking about Macau for the next, who knows how much time… Basically, I live here and I’m writing a book about it that’s going to be published shortly.
But I’m also going to be talking about “Moon over Macau” in the future as well. so I’m just gonna walk around and…ahm. Kind of go through some of Macau right now. Script Road. That’s a Literary Festival Actually, this bookstore carries “No Couches in Korea” They have this one in here and recently I sold a few of them because I did a… Talk at the “International ladies of Macau” So they were really fantastic to talk to, and some of them bought their books here and some of them read it online This is where it’s at It’s the Portuguese Bookstore This guy is famous at the Portuguese Bookstore.
This is towards Senado Square. You can see the pavement here We’re just gonna keep walking down this way. This is such a beautiful place in Macau, so why not walk it? What I like about Macau is there are so many tourists visit and play casino that you can walk around the camera Nobody thinks anything of it.
So, it’s perfect! We’re going to take a look at St. Dominic’s Church in a minute, so… Some of the scenery These are upscale shops here that are in here.
I’m gonna to go back go back a bit further Here’s some boxes. I’ll show you some of the scenes of “Moon over Macau.” Maybe later, I’ll go more into detail about it This is one of the scenes when they walk up and down the street. They go up to Sao Paulo Ruins later… If you are a person that buys this book later You will know of know what this looks like now… Yeah, the new book is “Moon over Macau.’ So….
It’s gonna be available on December 1st. I will be changing the website Change the name of the website to reflect that This right here is where we’re going to be coming up to Sao Paulo Ruins. So, we’re giong to just walk up that way…
So right now, it still feels like like you are in somewhere like Europe And then you get up here and there’s a big large Cathedral. So this is the… Sao Paulo Ruins. Oh, it’s funny. This couple here! They were up here when I was writing this book!
I went up here to plan a scene. I think that old couple was here So they might come up here every night, and just sit there Okay. So we got one.
Two. Three.Four. Fix. Six. We come back here again in the daytime, and we can take a look at this.
Later, some people who read the book will see this in the book. This scene. So, I won’t tell you what it is. So, I haven’t actually read the response yet from the book because it hasn’t been released yet. So, I’m not sure the reaction to it yet.
But there is a scene that happens here. I had a good friend who read it, and he wasn’t sure about the book ending But… We’ll see. I spent a lot of time rewriting it and changing it… So, we’ll see if it is… if its more acceptable to an audience or not… Beautiful There’s also…some… Well, this scene is described in the book. We’re going to walk across here. There’s a statue that is in the book.
So, I just want to capture it… It’s also funny because I wrote about… the Filipino population in there (in the book) park, too. So we’re gonna keep walking They were in the park too (in the book).
I’m going to go up to the statue up there There is (interrupted by Koreans talking in Korean) I’ll come by here another time. Looks like the are Koreans. They are speaking in Korean. We’re gonna keep walking down Yeah.
When you come to this area, you’ll hear languages from all over They’re all speaking Korean behind me. A little family. You also hear lots of… Filipino.
Chinese. So, let’s keep walking Over here, The Scene. So I want to bring you over to this area. So later you are going to read about it. Oh, it’s right there!
Good, right here. This is the spot right here So, yeah. This spot is at the end of the book. So, yeah, it goes down that way. At night time, there’s not many people.
But you’ll see a lot of people right over there. Right up on top. Yeah, the ending scene takes place right there Let’s look at this pole. It’s graffiti [stickers] Turn your head and have a view of that You see that in the book too Rua. Street.
I can’t pronounce my Portuguese very well. But Resurrection. Apartment buildings Then, you have this little area right here It’s hard to see in the dark, but there’s a Chinese temple right here. I’ll walk around a little bit This has temples, but it also has people who live here Somebody’s dog. This is a really pretty area.
So, actually. Let me see. This actually goes to the other side. This is a residential down here. I like how everything is set up.
All of these little lamps everywhere. This isn’t in the book, but I want to show it anyways Because there’s a lot of little stuff in the book. We talk about these little things (shrines).
I’m gonna definitely do more videos, and I’ll talk more about those at another time This is actually somebody’s apartment. So he has his scooter inside. It’s that guy with the dog. But, yeah, They also have these things in front of everybody’s houses.
Almost everybody. Let’s keep walking Okay I want to tell a little story. When I was researching this book… I was looking around at a statue (temple) out there That statue (temple) was…
I’ll go and show you in a minute, but the particular statue was Kind of well known among the Chinese community. So this guy was from the mainland… So he was telling me all about the background and history behind it So, when I was talking to him, it’s kind of interesting because… We were able to… We spent a lot of time with him talking to me about… Him being mainland Chinese and of his…
This is really beautiful. So he was telling me that has Mainland Chinese, and what the reaction was of him from the people from Macau and Hong Kong And I didn’t want to say too much to him about… Mainland (Chinese) Behavior Because he’s from the Mainland. He’s probably aware of it already. About the perception, that’s not always so good. Oh, here we go. I was sitting here just reading this…
I was reading it for my book. I’ll show this in case you wanted to read it. You can stop and play the video. Sorry. So, yeah, him and I were sitting right here. So I was sitting here and… And he was telling me all about his perception, and how excited he was to be in… Somewhere so different.
So even though it’s China. It’s really not. So, for him, it was so exciting and so different.
So, he was saying… You know how he was yelling and shouting and screaming… You know, which is a stereotype of Mainland Chinese anyway. So, the locals would be like, “Hey!” You have to settle down. Don’t yell like that. That’s not appropriate…
So, um… Anyways, he was telling me all that stuff and we’re sitting here. He was also telling me about… The belief system. You know, how it’s different in Macau versus mainland. China…
So, it’s pretty interesting, just listening to him. Then as he was sitting here, it was kind of funny. Because he was actually a pretty good guy.
As most human beings are. Him included. And while he was here, there was a guy that was like… From the mainland. He had a beer. A lot of Mainlanders… They don’t really do things well..Ahm.
Questionable behavior sometimes. Some of them. Not all of them.
A lot of great people, of course… But this particular one had a beer in his hand, and he was staring at us. So, we were just sitting here talking and the guy got in my face like, you know, just right here. He was looking at me, but he was even looking more at the Chinese guy. How how can you be speaking English? You’re Chinese?
Which is a perception that is more Mainland [Chinese]. You don’t get that here [in Macau]. The locals here, the Macanese, the Chinese from Macau, the Chinese from Hong Kong. Very international.
So I’d never have those issues. They speak to me in English all the time. I can barely practice Chinese because they will usually speak English to me no matter what But anyway, that guy was kind of staring at him, staring at me And I guess that’s why, him and I. Well, he was teaching me about this kind of stuff. His belief system from where he was from. So that was happening, and he…
He felt pretty embarrassed by it. He was telling me about… Yeah, I was just commenting, “Oh, man that’s really rude, right?” And that is when we started talking about… his embarrassment of him being a Mainlander, and his… mistakes that he made, because he really loves visiting here. And he loves all the culture. So, you know…
He was saying that in the Mainland China with the Cultural Revolution… things have changed there, where things are still the same here. I don’t want to get into detail about that, but.. Basically here. There’s a lot of the old traditional Chinese characters Yeah, when they see these temples, you know, there was um, they’ve been here for quite a long time It’s a lot of history here. So it’s you know, it’s China, but it’s also Like a different kind of China than the mainland Chinese Anyway, him and I sat here for quite a while…
I was talking to him. I kind of really enjoyed that. So, he saw me writing…I was writing… …down a bunch of ideas for the book.
The stuff that I wanted to include and share… in “Moon over Macau,” so that’s why, um, It’s kind of why… He, ah. Anyway, that was all right here. Talking to him like that. Actually I spent one whole night just sitting here… I think I was gonna walk down here, but I think we’re gonna go back up to the top.
That moon. It’s amazing Okay, so we’re gonna keep going…
